10 Ways to be better in Sales

1. Work smart and hard
The focus is no longer about general work ethic, but about efficiency. Wake up a little earlier tomorrow, stay a little later, and make an extra call at the end of the day. Understand what hard work and dedication is all about and where it can take you.

2. Always ask for feedback
Create an environment that includes continuous feedback and improvement. Whether it’s your boss, colleagues, customers, family, or anyone else, ask for their opinions about how to be better.

3. Set high but attainable goals & earn everything
Goals need to be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely). You can’t set a goal of “I want to be better” because you can’t measure that.

4. Be open and honest
You know when you’re lying to yourself or trying to justify to yourself why you did or didn’t do something. Stop making excuses.

5. Don’t think you’re better than anyone else
Don’t consider yourself a sales rep. Think of yourself as a business professional that happens to be in sales. This evens the playing field.

6. Confidence overcomes most shortcomings
If you believe in what you sell, you don’t have to say phrases like, “I’m sorry to bother you…”When making cold calls, you’re doing the prospect a favor.

7. Find your passion
Find a company or solution that you believe in for the right reasons.
When you believe in what you do, it’s all about the transfer of enthusiasm.

8. You can learn something new
Do things for the right reasons and treat people with respect along the way and you will achieve success. You can learn something from them, good or bad.

9. Get 1% better every day
Ask yourself every day, “Am I better today than I was yesterday?” If that Answer is no, then figure out what you need to do to answer that question with a yes tomorrow.

10. Always have a plan B
Consider two things when making any major investment of time or money:
a) What’s the worst-case scenario if this doesn’t work out and am I ok with it?
b) What’s my plan B if it doesn’t work out?
